Urban Age Institute is proud to announce the recent publishing of Cities on the Rise: Lessons in Becoming Sustainable Download Publication (PDF)
This publication has been researched and written in support of a unique collaborative effort on sustainable cities. The effort aims to develop tools and methods based on science, technology, and engineering to achieve sustainable cities in the developing world. Through the agency of the lead essay, “Learning Cities” and the two city-specific case studies, the Urban Age Institute is seeking to contribute to a broad-ranging debate now underway: how cities become a leading force for positive change; how the various actors within fast-growing developing world cities, with very limited resources, increase the sustainability of urban environment, energy, and transport systems. The conversation on these issues will continue for a long time, but important action steps—small and large—are being taken in hundreds of cities. Urban Age Institute’s magazine, first published in 1992 by The World Bank, is designed as a forum for the ideas and actions which are making contributions to this debate. The electronic version of the magazine can be found at here. Following are the individual reports and Executive Summaries from "Cities on the Rise", also available for download.
